Purchased our new 5th wheel from this dealer mid December 2019. It was last years model, not even at the location when we put the refundable holding fee down. My wife and I inspected the unit upon delivery to the dealer, looking for any major problems, knowing the unit still had to go through the PDI. We paid for the unit with a cashiers check after our initial inspection.
I ASSUMED they would inspect and test all components as the PDI required.
When I arrived for the scheduled delivery/walkthrough/how to use everything, it became very apparent the service department did not do their job. As we approached the coach, the auto leveling system was going wonky, one side of the axles were 6-8" off the ground, while the front corner was lowered all the way. My trusty walkthrough 'companion' ran to the controls and shut them off. "We'll get that fixed". We walked through, I asked detailed questions, some answered correctly, but most were showing me the incompetence he strutted.
After the cloud of building materials cleared from turning the air conditioner on, he assured me that the pile of rubbish on the bed was normal, and would have to deal with it for quite sometime. "You know, rocking the coach around wIll distribute this".
Off to sign the papers! I was handed the PDI, checked and signed, and told it has been taken care of, "just sign this". Out to hook up the new coach! ...Oh but wait, what about the wonky leveling system??? About an hour and a half later, they found the rear jacks were wired in reverse, left to right right to left. What about the PDI?
I wanted out of there, knowing very well that I am more capable to fix anything than this crew. After backing under the hitch, the pin box was very close to my tailgate. I asked repeatedly if the could move the fifth wheel mounting ahead 2", but the ringleader assured me that was too much trouble for them. Even after his coworkers agreed it would help and could be disastrous not to move it. Made it home carefully.
When I voiced my dissatisfaction to the salesman, he assured me the owner would be aware of this situation. Two days later the service manager called me, assuring me they did the PDI, maybe just not as thorough as they should have. I'd had it at this point and told him where to go. I also immediately called the salesman and told him "this was the worst transaction I had ever been a part of, I wish I had never walked into your dealership".
To the Owners credit, I received a letter a few days later. He apologized for everything, took complete responsibility, and offered to pay any dealer to fix all the issues that this trailer was still having. He even sent a check with the memo: "customer goodwill".
He tried to make it right, way too late and and not received well. I returned his check with a note of my own.
After all of this, all I can hope is that this company will get back on course. A few years of great times can be costly, and this is a perfect example of complacency at its best. I would avoid this place at all costs for quite some time, they need to earn back the respect of the customer.
BTW, they did not even offer to vacuum the bUilding materials off the bed!
