I purchased a 2010 Winnebago Adventurer from Palm RV this past summer. Being my first RV, I was admittedly a novice when it comes to buying an RV, but due to Palm RV being a “Top 50” dealership, I was at least hoping they would be an honest establishment. Boy was I wrong. Not knowing a lot about RV’s I had to trust the salesperson (Corey), and managers at Palm RV, a supposed reputable dealership to not take advantage of me. Which of course they did. Was reassured throughout the buying process that my RV was road ready. “Plenty of tread on the tires” I was told. Took delivery after putting $10,000 down, and financed the rest. Did a few local trips over the summer, and then set out on a 3000 mile trip this fall. About half way through the trip, I brought my RV in for service while on the road. (Turns out, Palm RV never serviced the RV before selling it to me, but that’s another story.) The service manager where I had my service done informed me that according to the date codes on my tires, I was driving on outdated/ old tires that could be dangerous and suffer a blowout. And unlike a car, a blowout on an RV can be catastrophic. He informed me that RV tire “tread” is not really used to determine tire safety or remaining tire life, but is determined by tire age. I have since learned that this is common knowledge in the RV community. On my RV, the date codes required by law save one, had all been turned to the inside of the wheel well. Probably not a coincidence. The recommended manufacturer tire replacement life for my tires (Michelin) is 5 years. Age of tires on my RV the date of purchase from Palm RV was almost 6 ½ years old. Cost of replacement was quoted about $3500-$4000 dollars. Being a disabled veteran on a fixed income, and having spent a large chunk of my savings on the RV down payment, I had to limp my RV back to Florida in hopes that it was just an oversight on Palm RV’s part and they would make it right. Contacted the Sales Manager (Jeremy) and explained the situation. After a brief discussion he asked for the date code on my tires (Common knowledge to check tire age as mentioned above; funny they know about the tire age requirements after the sale) and told me I should probably get new tires. WHAT!? In a second communication I was told I could get the tires replaced at cost. MY COST! Unbelievable. Being a first time RV owner, I’ll admit, I had no idea about the tire age issue. But for Palm RV, supposed professionals in the RV world, to knowingly sell a possibly unsafe RV shows them to either be incompetent or unethical. And just like most used car (RV) salesman, we all know the answer to that. At some point, I will be able to afford new tires, but will NEVER return for Palm RV for anything. I will wait and pay full price somewhere else to avoid dealing with them and their shady, unethical business practices. Learn from my mistake and run away from this dealership as fast as you can. I know this review is long, but If this prevents one person from being ripped off by Palm RV it will be worth it. Now, according to the Sales Manager, even after all this, I got a heck of a deal. Yup, a heck of a deal on a RV that is not road worthy and possibly dangerous to me and my family. Lucky me.
