After seeing a used 43’ Monaco Dynasty on RVT my wife and I flew from Portland, Oregon to Michigan to see the coach in person. We fell in love (sorta) with it and negotiated a sale with salesman Chad DeMaat with the understanding they would hold the coach for a month while we made arrangements for pick up and delivery back to Oregon. ALSO, that Midway would check the front end to see what was causing the coach to “thump” and vibrate when crossing over a bump or street stress crack. Mr. DeMaat was pretty sure it was simply the front location of the generator on a diesel “pusher” that commonly “shake and rattle”. I thought it was shocks myself but he was pretty sure it was not.
When I returned to GR to retrieve the coach Mr. DeMaat informed me that while they continued to believe it was a generator issue, they would replace the front shocks to make sure and to satisfy my concerns. It was during the late afternoon maintenance work that I happen to walk by to inspect there progress on the shock replacement. It was at that time that I noticed the front wheel/tire propped up against the wall while staff members worked on the coach. The staff member addressed me, “we had to remove the front wheel to get at the shock”, to which I replied, “no problem”!
Already later in the day and tired after the prior day/evening flight and time change I made the mistake of not once again inspecting the coach when the work had been completed and the coach pulled outside. It was not until after the three and a half day trip back to Oregon before I took the time for a “walk around” to truly examine the Dynasty. There it was plain as day. The front wheels/rims were horribly scared around the lug nuts (Accuride wheels w/Accushield wheel coating). I called SALESMAN Chad DeMaat first thing on Monday morning about the wheels and supplied him with pictures taken on our initial trip to GR and the wheels after returning to Oregon. Appreciate that at NO TIME were the wheels removed or tampered with on our trip from GR.
Mr. Chad DeMaat’s reaction was REMARKABLE! He absolutely denied that the wheels were ever taken off the coach by Midway and asked what I was trying to “pull”
...that my wife and I had been “high maintenance” and they had done their very best to make our stay comfortable. HIGH MAINTENANCE??? I’m nearing the 80 mark and a retired bank executive officer and high maintenance we most certainly ARE NOT!
Even with pictures supplied Chad continued to deny the wheels had ever been removed and proceeded to tell me how I had destroyed his day to such a point that he didn’t think he could attend a friend’s party that night. What??? I gave him staff names to contact that were at the coach when the wheels WERE removed. Only then and after numerous e/mails did Mr. DeMaat say to me that he apologized if any of the Midway RV staff had “scratched” my coach wheels. Scratched??? What about permanently scared! Of course Accuride Wheel Co no longer manufacture that specially made for Monaco Motorhome wheel. And try to find one from salvage! $1,000 per wheel and with no guarantee that they, too, are not scared.
Sorry Midway RV. You covered up an employee’s error in butchering an expensive chrome/polished aluminum wheel(s) with a torque wrench without using protective pads between wheel and wrench.
Shame on you Midway RV. You know better than that and you sure wouldn’t do it to one of your $600,000 Newmar’s. Shame on you, Chad DeMaat for being an insensitive SALESMAN and do your best to protect your company, it’s staff and boss, at whatever the cost. And shame on us for putting our trust in you! High maintenance? Shame, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!
