Started off buying a 2021 Grand design solitude. We were selling our house and was waiting on close. Even though we had still had 3 weeks until close, that was bumped to over 4 weeks. The sales team offered to take a credit card number to reserve the rv and we would pay cash after close.
We went and took the rv the Friday before closing, because we had to be out Monday morning. The finance manager Rick and the dealer manager Barry, had no problems taking a post dated check from us. We took the RV 20 miles to Odessa and parked it. Still being new to an rv, I rubbed the side of the RV, it broke my heart but my detail guy said he could fix it for $300 or $500 if he had to drive to me.
On the day of closing, the buyers couldn’t get financed so we had to return the RV. Barry and Rick instead of thinking about a future sake, thought only of the quick Buck and proceeded to attempt to extort me of $17,000 that they claimed was for damages! Then said $10,000 and then $5000. Truth is legally I could just pay them their insurance deductible and be done. Or claim it on mine. They tried to keep my truck until I paid, and did keep the check we wrote, which is illegal in its own way. The Rick tried to claim that I damaged their hitch and was going to have to pay that.
After discussing it over with my lawyer, he suggested I press charges of attempted extortion against them. The case was picked up by the State attorney and is currently being investigated.
I recorded each conversation we had had, be it in person or over the phone.
I will NEVER return to this place while these two work there.
The day I picked up my truck from them, we received another offer on the house for cash money. If they had just been civil and professional I would have bought the RV still, with the damages and on the following Monday. Greed and short sightedness and immaturity got the better of them and I still got a great RV.. just elsewhere
I strongly suggest that you record your conversations with this business, let alone the price gouging they do in their shop, they will lie to your face. They are not to be trusted at all. If you damage one of their units, legally you only have to pay their business insurance deductible. You are not responsible for the “appraised” damages.
They fixed the damages in their shop using a touch up kit and hammering out the small dents. I know the owner.
