This dealership will tell you that it is a "Tennessee State Law" that requires them to charge their customers a $1299 Dealer Prep and Document Fee.
I will share my experience and you can decide for yourself if you want to do business with Lazy Days. I was looking for a used particular model of camper and one was located with Lazy Days in Murphreesboro. I called and we discussed price. We came to to a price I was willing to spend. Then the price was increased $1299 for Dealer Prep and Document Fees. I was paying cash and am a resident of Texas where the camper was going to be located and titled. I asked why that charge was added on. The sales person tried to get around answering my questions and finally said that there was not anything the dealership could do. It was required by Tennesse law. His exact words were that if I was buying a $1500 camper or million dollar motor home the state of Tennesse required them to charge $1299. Well it was a deal breaker.
I found the exact model at a Lazy Days in Denver. I called and said that whatever price we came to that they would have to include any document and dealer prep fees from the beginning. Once again I was told that it was "Colorado Law" that required them to charge this amount. There was nothing that they could do about it. I am an attorney who practiced in Texas. I had never heard of any state requiring a fee of this nature. They may regulate such a fee, but not require it. And then for two states to have the same exact law for the exact same amount..... I had reservations. So I started researching Tennessee law and there is nothing codified requiring a set fee. In fact a dealer can charge any fee that they want in Tennessee and since the law changed in 2023 the dealer does not have to disclose this in the advertising but must disclose it in the contract. So there is no "State Requirement" for this fee. I do not do busy with entities that have a policy to lie about state law to their customers. You can be your own judge.
