Bought our 2022 Gulf Stream Vista Cruiser 19RBS brand new from Campers Inn/Union CT a few months ago. The sales staff talks a decent game, but all that was delivered was the camper...as it was delivered from the manufacturer. The fees for prep, inspection, soundness, or whatever they were for bought nothing. But I'll get back to that.
First, the anti-sway hitch. When they realized they didn't have an appropriate hitch, they offered to acquire one and deliver the camper to my house and install the hitch. Several days later the trailer arrived, accompanied by a "tech" who had no experience installing hitches. After a brief conversation with him I realized that he had no experience and no idea what he was doing and would have installed it incorrectly. The service manager offered to send a qualified tech the next day. After a few days waiting, I decided to open the hitch box, read the instructions and install it myself. Yes, I needed to move the battery box, but that was the only complication. A few days later a talented tech finally showed up. I had him inspect my installation, which he declared to be quality work.
Now for the actual camper. During our first camping trip of a few days we quickly discovered many system failures that would have been immediately identified by competent dealer prep.
Among the issues:
• Kitchen faucet was completely blocked by construction debris. (I simply removed and cleaned the faucet strainer)
• Bathroom sink plumbing leaked profusely. (I bought some PEX pipe and appropriate tools and replaced all of the faulty plumbing)
• Camper door had excessive friction due to poor lower hinge installation. (It had to be forced open and slammed shut. I reinstalled it with properly placed screw holes and now it works effortlessly)
• The electric setting of the electric/propane water heater did not function at all. (After removing the access panel in the bathroom I discovered that the power cord was left dangling over the tank instead of being plugged in to the hidden power outlet. I simply plugged it in to fix it)
• Trailer tires were low quality Loadstar, made in China and notoriously poor quality. But, more importantly, they were inflated to only 34 PSI!!! Instead of the recommended 75 PSI. (I intend to replace them with quality tires in the near future)
In summary, they take your money and expend absolutely no effort to make sure the camper is in good working order.
