The 42GD is a great home on wheels for a couple who works from home but still wants the freedom to travel. It has a great floor plan with central living area and front kitchen. The 4 slides are opposing which makes for spacious rooms. There is an immense amount of storage available. The ride is very smooth and quiet. It is a joy to drive. The 450 hp engine provides plenty of power in hilly conditions even when towing and we’ve averaged over 7 mpg in all of our travels.

No matter what you use to camp with an RV is a compromise. That said, accepting the different types, floor plans, engines, levels of quality and how you prioritze them will predict your level of satisfaction! We chose the diesel over gas, the class A coach over class B, C or a trailer, we chose a small over a larger vehicle - Heres why. First, diesel power is, in a word, comforting; more torque than power, it feels right when driving a heavier vehicle. Step on the throttle and you get a surge of reassuring power, not as much with a gas engine. Second, a Class A gives you a huge view, when you are driving, the large expanse of glass is like a window to the world! In a smaller rig, this space is your picture window when you are all set up camping; makes the space feel much larger. Third, The smaller vehicle has gotten us to places that are off limits to larger vehicles; state parks or campsites that are close to capacity, the odds of an available site are better; we have gotten into places that others wouldnt fit. Lastly the quality of a coach especially ours is top shelf which makes the experience that much more enjoyable!

We downsized from a 45-foot 2008 Newmar Mountain Aire to the 24-foot Winnebago View-Profile. The primary advantage has been much lower operating costs and drivability. The View goes anywhere a van can go and parks anywhere a large pickup can. Towing a vehicle for use after setting up camp is entirely optional as the View can make that run to Walmart for supplies as easily as a car. Being a Class C, we are able to take our furry friends along just as we did in the Mountain Aire, which was our primary reason for not trying out a towable RV. Being a V6 diesel fuel engine, the View has good low end towing power and great gas mileage. It goes down the road quit well. While we miss the space in our Mountain Aire and the convenience of the things we carried for a second home, the move to a Class C so my wife could drive was worth the change.

All the systems are easy to use. The manual is helpful. It has storage space galore - honestly way more than a person needs unless you choose to be a full timer. The tv antenna picks up a number of channels and the dvd players work great. Nice for a couple and a couple of children or grands.

SO easy to drive, even when we tow our raft or even the utility trailer. I'm 5'3" and have taken this on solo trips and "girl's" trips with my mom even. Great storage in the "garage" section and the enclosed shower/bathroom space was a must for us - even if we're just hanging wet gear in there to drain. We really like the ease of cooking in it, but really really like it when we can just leave the side door open, pop the outdoor table down and cook/eat outdoors wherever we are! The 4-Wheel drive has been awesome on early spring trips when we've had snow and for 4-wheel low pulling our raft out at take-outs...This is a great rig overall and we've loved it!
