I love having a lightweight camper I can pull behind my SUV. The plus side is it pulls well, has room for bed and bath, not a lot of medal parts to rust. It's more expensive than other campers due to its lightweight and durability. The negative side which I believe is a design flaw is: 1. Bathroom toilet is too high. Hard for a normal size person to get on and off. There is no underbelly black water tank and therefore the tank has to sit above the floor and the shower floor is level with bottom of camper. If the design had included a drop or lift up subfloor then it would raise the floor for toilet use, but could be lifted up for shower use 2. Design flaw with large bed/table is very difficult to sit at in table position. Not enough space between table and sitting area. Side cabinets block entrance to sitting area and therefore have to squeeze in to sit. A circular bench with smaller table would work great. 3. Design flaw with small table/sleeping area is too narrow. An average adult is unable to sleep on it. A solution would be a pull out extension to make the bed a twin bed width. I am in the process of having the above designs implemented on the camper to make it more comfortable and be able to have a companion camp with me.

I bought this trailer new from Budget RV in Royse City, Texas. Purchase was in mid-July. Trailer itself is shoddy… missing screws on stovetop and awning support. Bathroom door didn’t close unless I lifted it up. Trim around corners or seats and in other places is merely paperboard with tape printed to look like wood. Rubber trim concealing screws on front of trailer started flapping in the wind an hour from the dealer. Water heater (dometic 6-gal, gas/elec) has not worked once… even though I’ve replaced the thermal fuse. Gas will now stay on, but no hot water. Electric can be left on, even overnight and still no hot water. It’s a single axle and moves quite a bit when semis or buses pass. All-in-all… would not recommend this trailer to anyone. Yes, it looks cute and retro, but it may as well have been quilt in China. Have emailed manufacturer… did not even respond.

Our 2006 16' Deluxe Scamp trailer was our home away from home for a month at a time as we traveled throughout the southwest from Washington State. We truly enjoyed leaving the dinette down into a bed full time as our model had the side dinette, perfect for two. The wide front shower/toilet was perfect for us and allowed extra storage while underway. We were always answering questions and giving tours of our Scamp from interested people wherever we traveled. Be prepared to be a Scamp ambassador as folks really want to see the inside! We had two problems towing the 16' Scamp: 1) Multiple flat tires, always on the passenger side. 2) Excessive trailer swaying. Each flat was an explosive blowout that soon damaged the fiberglass wheel well. The swaying was diminished when we placed extra weight in the front bathroom. A new sway-bar helped, but it was always a problem especially with freeway speeds. Because of the blowouts we decided to sell the Scamp for this reason alone as we couldn't solve this problem. We believe that a two axel travel trailer would handle the weight better and provide travel security. Unfortunately, Scamp doesn't make a two axel model. Surprisingly, our 16' Scamp held its value and we were delighted not to lose any money selling to a private party. We are currently looking for a similar sized light fiberglass trailer that has two axels as we plan on continuing our travels across the U.S. as soon as possible. BTW, we pulled it with a V6 Jeep Liberty that can tow 5,000 lbs. with no trouble as fully loaded the Scamp weighed around 2,900 lbs. including a Honda generator. With the exception of steep mountain hills, you nearly forgot the Scamp was there! I would give the Scamp 16' Travel Trailer a 4 out of 5 stars as it is lightweight and durable though not of the very highest construction quality. After all, they do try to keep it as light as possible. Our deluxe model included air conditioning, furnace, larger refrigerator, duel propane tanks, side dinette, and the wider front bathroom. It's a fantastic layout for two people but can sleep three!

We bought our Aspen Classic to tour Alaska because we were afraid our older GMC motorhome would have problems. Our regular car is a Toyota Camry which was not approved for towing so we went searching for the smallest, lightest camper we could find. We had seen An Aspen Classic on one of our camping trips and were intrigued. Designed to be towed by any motorcycle 750cc or larger, the Aspen Classic was what we needed. We searched for a used one but ended up buying a new one. It turned out to be one of the best purchases we have ever made as campers. It tows beautifully, even a Smart Car would hardly know it's back there. With 25 cubic feet of storage, it held everything we wanted to take, including a portable toilet. We got most of the options and even though it rained A LOT in Alaska we had lots of room both inside and outside to enjoy. Our only complaints were that the king size mattress is a little thin and we may replace it with an air mattress, and the leveling jacks are a little long to use for some campsites. It was a joy to get somewhere and after 20 minutes of setup we had supper on the stove and an adult beverage in our hands. It takes some practice to be fast but with two people who have done it some, in two minutes you can be out of the rain and finished in ten minutes. We seldom felt the need to hurry that much. We have camped places where 200 mosquitoes could find your arm in seconds and after set-up lounged in complete comfort, without a single bite. It's satisfyingly tight. More than once we've had two inches of rain overnight and been snug and dry. So, if you want to take tent camping to the next level with a full watertight floor, sleeping off the ground on a king-size bed and a nicely sized stand up room, you should look closely at an Aspen Classic if you can find one. The amazing amount of storage and easy towing are nice bonuses. Look them over at aspenqualitytrailers.com
