Grand Design Momentum reviews

Originally bought the Toy Hauler to take our Polaris 4 wheeler on our trips. Given the limited RV parks that allow 4-wheelers, the garage turned into a perfect 2nd bedroom with it's own half bath and TV. Additionally, the bench and tables were a great dining area. Used the porch many times as a perfect outdoor area as well. Having the garage gave us all kinds of flexibility, from transporting our e-bikes and anything else we wanted to take, to using the garage as moving van storage. Moved our Son and Wife's belongings from SC to FL when they bought their first house. While the garage wasn't used as originally planned, it was very flexible and turned out to be the perfect second bedroom for our visiting family! The Momentum has a 40K btu furnace for winter and (3) 15K btu air conditioners for the Summer. With it's 4 season insulation, it was perfect when we went skiing in 10 degree WV or 110 degrees in AZ. Given all the appliances (18 cu ft Fridge/Freezer, gas range and oven, convection micro-oven and island sink), the 351M has all the comforts of home on wheels. Entertainment is just like home with (3) flat screen TV's and a 3 zone pioneer stereo system. Lastly, the Grand Design 351M was designed very well and built with much higher quality than most RV's. This is the third camper we have purchased for our family. We switched to Grand Design because of all the great things we have heard about them. This camper has been nothing but a nightmare. We purchased it brand new. After our first trip, the glass entry door shattered. It took about 3 months to replace it. The dealer did install a temporary door so the summer wasn't wasted. Then, the exterior ladder pulled out of sidewall, interior panels started popping off the walls, the back garage wall was not securely fastened to the side walls, and one of the bolts on the garage door broke off. It turns out it was missing multiple studs and backers. Grand Design told us to take it to the dealer for warranty repairs. That was an epic fail. The dealer did more damage to everything they touched and took multiple shortcuts. We complained and Grand Design said they would fix it. We just got the camper back and not only did they make more damage, but they also cut corners and failed to fix everything. You can see daylight through the panels by the nightstands, the entertainment cabinet is scratched, marred, and damaged. Nothing was resealed or even replaced. We reached back out to Grand Design and they told us to take it back to the dealer for warranty work. That is where we are now. Standby for updates. Show less

Rv was assembled in a hurry. Very poor and sloppy workmanship. End result is missing parts, things falling apart. Excess frame flex/failure. Wrong bolts, missing bolts, bad welds, suspension failure, bad frame design, things falling apart. Serious safety issues. To many corners were cut to make a profit and sacrifices safety. Show less

This RV checks almost all the boxes if you need a toy hauler but still camp in conventional campgrounds as it’s still under 40’. This is the trailer for you. Good kitchen storage , kitchen is cramped with more than 2 people in it at once. Limited space for eating but good couch layout for watching TV. Big master bedroom and good size shower and great half bath in the garage for the kids. Small outside storage gotta get creative but still works. This trailer has had the least amount of problems out of my previous Dutchman and Forest River trailers. Would purchase again. Show less

I decided to trade in my Motorhome for a Toy Hauler and chose Grand Design because of the supposedly good reviews they have that are very questionable today. I picked up my new Momentum 29G in December 2023, it was supposed to bring us fun and adventure. During the first rain, water started coming in through both sliders, the generator stopped working, black water started leaking, and the reclining seats came loose. I took it under warranty, they had it for 3 months. I went out in the RV and during the first rain, the same problem, water through both sliders and the generator not working. Three months again under warranty, they let me know it was ready, I pick it up and the same problem continues, water coming in through the sliders and the generator not working. 10 months later without using the camper, it is scheduled to go under warranty again. I have called and written to Grand Design and they have not resolved anything. This is my third RV, my first Grand Design and it will be the last. Show less

I’m sure everyone like my wife and I want to get away and an RV and enjoy the experience and go to different places. My wife and I had a 2009 stellar eclipse toy hauler over the years. We had to replace many of the junk parts that they put on this unit. My wife and I would always notice the Grand Design momentum has been the top of the class draft about buying one for six years and then decided this year. We pulled the plug and bought one. The momentum 320 G looks good from the outside, but things went wrong the very beginning on the first day of our first trip the middle air condition went out that took seven weeks to repair. On second trip the generator would start. It doesn’t look like a bright future for traveling in our Grand Design momentum 322. I’m expressing to you that the quality of products have no quality buyers beware Show less

Ours is a 2018 that we have had absolutely no problem with. I take that back, we had a small slide issue that Grand Design quickly provided us with a replacement part for no cost. We simply paid a RV mobile repair to install and its been great since! We have been living in ours since June 2022, purchased used. This has been an exceptional unit. Our 2022 Ram 3500 pulls this without issue. Lots of storage, I can't say enough great things about our home! Show less

They'll make you as the consumer, jump through hoops to fix the problems with their units. Calling any idea they have "suggestions" so they can weasel out of coverage of anything done to your unit per their "suggestions" Even if you show them proof of the issues (video, written documentation, multiple witnesses, etc.) and show that the parts they've installed are out of specification - they'll assume no liability leaving you with the bills and an unsafe expensive camper because they choose not to fix it. They'll try to bully you into submission when you stand up to them as well, I've found and anytime they have information that hurts their case further they will call you rather than continue in email correspondence so they can try to lose the paper trails. They'll also tell you that people with 30+ years' experience don't supersede their techs who claim nothing is wrong when they've proven time and time again their products are failing. They'll also blame you - your experience, tow vehicles, hitch(es), everything they can to push blame from their units. In my case the trailers axles were installed 5" out of spec in terms of front to rear positioning, and also have a 1/2" difference between a front & rear hanger diagonally causing sway, bounce, tracking issues, movement etc. in the trailer. I've learned since that I'm not the only owner experiencing this issue and not many have found solutions that work. Those who have, I've tried with no difference made in my particular unit. Now I'm told it's my responsibility to pay a 3rd party out of pocket to prove (again) that there's still an issue. Then, once I do; it must be reviewed by their team before they deem it something they need to fix under their "warranty". I have since found cracks in the trailers frame and gaps / drops throughout the flooring inside. I have filed a report with the NHTSA at this time providing every detail, email, invoice, photo, video proof, and written statement. Show less

We bought a brand new 2022 Grand Design Momentum 395 MS in June 2022. We shortly started having issues with everything. The door couldn't be shut unless you slam it. The garage door and track broke. We weren't able to use the patio or entrance at all. The sewer line cracked and started leaking. (Not during winter months). The wall separating the garage from living room separated from the ceiling. The walls were coming apart in the bedroom. The furnace would not turn on in the middle of the night unless I got up and turned it on manually every one-two hours. We had the ignitor board fixed. This only worked for a couple of weeks and then we started having the same issue again. We took it into Bish's where it sat for 5 months while they tried to fix everything. They ended up replacing the entire furnace and everything else. The ceiling immediately separated again. The oven ignitor went out and the entire oven had to be replaced. After another couple of weeks the furnace started doing the same thing. We had the motherboard replaced and the command center. The ignitor board went out again and had to be replaced. We had to replace the female power outlet to connect to power. We soon discovered that the water system is completely defective and started leaking after 20+ hours of repairs we finally stopped the leaking. Due to the tubing and clamp job they did during manufacturing the entire water system needs to be relined and redone. The lines in the shower need to be redone requiring the walls to be removed. The lines underneath the sink all need to be fixed as well. We fixed the propane regulator finally fixing the furnace issue during the night. After 3 months of infrequent use of the BRAND NEW furnace the motor burned out again. The entire venting system is not correctly done. Per the Suburban manual we are supposed to have 4.4 vents we barely have 3 and that was after fixing the 4 inch vent we had the one in the kitchen opened out more because it was never completely opened during manufacturing and occluded approximately 85%. The foam seal was blocking the air flow we were only receiving 1 x 1.5 in of air flow through a 4 inch duct. In order to prevent the motor from continuing to burn out we need to add another 4 inch and 1.5 in vent. We use this 5th wheel for work. We are unable to leave it anywhere for very long without winterizing it because since the furnace won’t work everything will freeze. This is a defective unit. Since the duct system is a preexisting issue NWAN will not cover these expenses. The faulty duct system is causing the motor in the furnace to burn out and it only takes a couple of uses of the furnace to burn it out. The issues with this camper has disrupted our work, displaced my family, and has cost us thousands of dollars in repairs on top of traveling, hotels, loss of food. We are not new to 5th wheels, this being our third. We wanted the Grand Design because it is marketed as a high-quality top of the line product. We are grossly dissatisfied with Grand Design and their customer service team. We have called and are told they are unable to disclose any information about our claim only the agent can. I have sent two emails since 1/4/2024 and have not received any responses. We have already spoken to the dealership. We don't think us eating $35,000 + is fair for a defective product Grand Design manufactured. We are defeated and done. Our family is separated and displaced. The issues are never ending, we feel like we finally get everything fixed and the next day it’s something else. We don’t want this camper anymore or any other camper that Grand Design has touched. We lived in our 395 for 10 months and it was amazing. Our kids loved it. Floor plan was perfect for family of 5. Nice living room layout. Grand design was exceptional quality. As we traveled across the US we heard story after story of poor quality rvs. Grand design must be the best. I felt so blessed we bout this rig. It held up so well! Show less
