Hmmm…where to begin. Let me start with this – we were rookies to the travel trailer life and this was our first purchase. So, we decided to go small and did our share of looking at used. We eventually decided we couldn’t do previously owned after looking for months and went to a dealership to look at new units. We toured a Forest River Wildwood Heritage Glen unit and realized the floor plan we wanted. Little did we know, we’d find it 5 ½ hours from home…but we purchased it brand new and thought this was going to be a fun adventure! “Fun” was not the right word for it. This is where the real review begins and I’m just going to throw it all out there…Forest River’s Quality Department needs some better work practices! We had a punch list of 38…yes, I said 38…for the service department we FINALLY were able to get an appointment with. Let me share the majority of those 38 items that FR’s Quality team should have resolved BEFORE this unit was even sold.
The shower was not caulked at all, nothing! We took showers that first night and let’s just say, water was running everywhere. Not to mention, if you got in the shower, you could NOT get out…the framing on the wall that the door clicked into, was not screwed in and it was the new version of “help, I’ve fallen and can’t get up”, except it was now “help, I’m in the shower and can’t get out!” The toilet, yes, it was dripping from the water supply line and it wouldn’t hold water in the bowl. The kitchen sink…of course ANOTHER leak underneath and water everywhere. Not to mention, the faucet was dripping. Those fabulous recliners we were so excited to have…one of them didn’t even open smoothly and was catching on the bottom frame. The bracket for the table on the recliner console…was mounted a good 10” higher than it should have been and two of the four screws where into air…breakfast would have been at my chin, if we had used the table. The USB ports in the console of the recliners didn’t work. Oh yes, and a hole in the screen on the screen door, heater cover mounted crooked, top shelf in the pantry was broken, pantry door hit at the top of the door frame, the CO2 monitor cover was mounted upside down (come on, really?!?), both upper storage cabinet’s brackets were falling off and others broken off, a rip in the slide out window screen, bent entry door frame, multiple blinds not going up without help, outside storage framing bent and would not close properly, wind flowing freely through the top of the slide out, oven drawer bracket for closing didn’t work properly, multiple marks on the walls and ceiling that were used for building the unit and left for “decoration” I guess, the TV had one constant blue pixel in the picture, the slide out not working properly (a motor, panel board and new molding later, I think it’s ok now), window trim didn’t have all screws in and was falling off after a haul, and the cracked paint job on the outside of the unit.
Of course this list doesn’t cover some smaller issues, however I don’t understand the lack of quality review and FR failing to fix the majority of these before it is even shipped to a dealership. So many of these items could have been resolved without us having to wait 5 months to get an appointment for warranty work. Forest River needs to take more pride in their units. We will be VERY careful when we decide to upgrade and will be very finicky with the manufacturer we choose.
