2018 Grand Design Reflection reviews

I feel Grand Design is the best quality trailer on the market. Where other companies use particle board, Grand Design uses plywood. The quality is apparent when walking into a Grand Design vs any other brand in the same price range. I was really surprised by the “livability”. Truly, with this model you feel like you haven’t left home. The kitchen island is such a nice feature. It makes the kitchen design so user friendly, especially if you have people or pets in your trailer while you are trying to cook. The couch, theatre chairs, and big screen TV make it perfect for relaxing and entertaining. There’s so much space in the pantry, you rarely have to visit the store while you’re traveling. As far as driving and towing, it’s a very easy travel to tow. We use our Ford F150. None of my female friends will drive their trailer leaving their husbands to have to do all the driving. I not only drive, but can back up and park this trailer. The only complaint I have is the “support”. Happy Daze RV will keep your RV for half the year before they finally get around to addressing the issue. I hear that most of the dealerships are the same—very frustrating. Otherwise, the 295RL is super user friendly and a very well made, reliable trailer. Show less

This was the perfect unit for our family. With the door on the bunk room, it acts like a full second bedroom with storage and a lot of space. The amount of kitchen storage and counter space really make this a great unit for long term trips or even RV Living! The large fridge is awesome! Dual gray tanks make it easy to last a week between dumps. Lots of outside storage and lighting. All around it was exactly what we wanted! Show less

We love our 297! It is extremely comfortable and spacious, from the multitude of large windows with the heated, massage recliners in the livingroom to the queen size traditional mattress in the bedroom. On cold mornings it is wonderful to make a cup of coffee or tea and sit in front of the fireplace as you plan out our day. Of course, if you prefer, you can just turn up the heat to feel warm and toasty throughout the unit. The kitchen has everything you need! Plenty of counterspace with a large sink with gooseneck faucet and sprayer is adequate for anything you want to wash or prep. We travel for weeks at a time and have adequate space in the refrigerator, freezer and cabinets for all of our meals. The indoor stove/oven and the outdoor propane stove are very convenient. The microwave/convection oven is fabulous for preparing quick meals. There are also a lot of electric outlets for any convenience appliances you use. The wood dining table and 4 separate chairs are very comfortable and can be used in the living room or outside when you have a lot of guests to seat. Both the table and two of the chairs have smaller spaces for storage. The bathroom is spacious and there is plenty of storage for towels, personal products and cleaners. The glass shower doors are easy to clean and make the space feel open. Sitting outside surrounded by nature under the awning watching sports or movies on the TV, or listening to music from the outdoor speakers with drinks in the small refrigerator just a couple feet away is incredibly relaxing. The basement passthrough holds a lot of equipment and is easy to access. Show less

We bought this trailer 2 years old and have had it 3 years ourselves. The original buyer must have had all the initial problems fixed because we have had ZERO problems with it, We take long weekends with it about 6 times a year and it is also used as overflow space from May to October at our mountain cabin. Our previous 5th wheel floorplan no longer worked and I considered just selling it without replacing it until I saw the updated bunkhouse RV models. My wife had come to dislike using our old trailer but LOVES this Grand Design because the bathroom is now up front and the bunk beds are in a separate bedroom in the rear. Now grandkids can take naps during the day and we can still be inside. This model has an unbelievable amount of kitchen countertop space and I like having countertop space along side the stove so I can have ingredients right there ready to add to the pot, and plates right there ready to dish out the meal, etc. I do have several complaints about design features, some of these GD has revised in newer years. For me, some I have remodeled myself, and some still left to do. The build quality is very good, design and liveability is average. There was a lot of hidden wasted space in the bunk house and a cubby was inset above a stack of 4 drawers. This cubby shelf was only made of cheap paneling so it was only good for pillows. Behind those drawers was another 12 inches of empty space. And the top bunk was very narrow, I was afraid somebody would roll over and fall off it. So my woodworking brother built entirely new full depth drawers that hold a ton more items and we put the "cubby" on the floor so that I could store cases of bottled water out of the way. There was a drawer under the bottom bunk but behind it was about 8 to 10 sq feet of hidden empty space. I removed the drawer and opened up that space for more bottled water and big bags of charcoal, etc. We framed out the top bunk to make it as wide as the bottom bunk to make it safer and more comfortable. The only heater vent in the living room was in the rear by the bunkhouse door so the front area was colder. Other Reflection models have a heater vent in the steps to the front bedroom so I put one in myself. The heater vent for the bathroom/front bedroom was a horrible design and not efficient so I put in flexible ducts to properly distrubute heat to the bedroom vent. The kitchen in my 2018 only has drawers under the counters so there isn't a good place to put pots & pans. Newer models had a fireplace put in there and that took up even more storage. Now the fireplace is gone and GD has put in real cabinets for pots/pans and added other drawers. That's a much better setup than I have. I may convert some of my drawers to cabinets. I didn't like having to open a cabinet door to get to the control panel to turn on the living room lights, so I moved the switch next to the thermostat and made it a dimmer switch. There was only ONE usb charging port in the whole trailer. That's crazy. So I put one in the nightstand in the front bedroom and one in the living room in an overhead cabinet. We dry camp a lot and run off 12v so I needed those usb plugs. I've beefed up some of the areas GD cheaped out on, such as the plastic saddle pans in the pass through storage. There was no support under them so they would break and stuff would fall onto the road so I could run it over. The wall divider in the pass through was flimsy paneling so I put in 3/4 inch plywood so I could mount battery terminals and other things to it. The shower control valves had no structural support behind them and the whole shower flexed and would eventually crack. So I carefully cut out the panel in the closet to put in extra wood framing to prevent the shower enclosure from flexing and screwed the shower controls to that framing. Reinstalled the closet panel with screws in case I ever need access again. I put 4 deep cycle batteries in and I have 2 200 watt solar panels that I place on the ground in the sun to charge them. I like to park the trailer itself in the shade to keep it cool, so roof mounted solar panels wouldn't work. I can move the panels to get the best angle. I have a quick connect on the wire from the panels to the solar controller so it's easy to connect them. Now the trailer is almost exactly how I want it. Show less

We purchased a Grand Design Reflection 220RK, 5th wheel RV in September of 2018. It has been one problem after another with this RV. In Sept of 2019 I had to take it into the dealer to have the drawers and pantry shelves repaired, as they were coming apart. The plastic wheel skirts kept breaking. I am on my 3rd set and they are broken also. From there it was other issues that needed to be repaired or replaced. The problems got bigger and more expensive to repair, a thousand dollars here and there. I took it back to the dealer on January of 2022, to repair a leaking shower drain. The dealer told me the damage was caused by the furnace heat exchanger that was too close to the shower pan, causing it to melt. That repair for the shower pan replacement and to move the heat exchanger back away from the new shower pan cost us $1,107.50 that time. We got this RV to travel and live in for about 1.5 years. I loved it. It has everything needed to live full time in heat or cold. The fireplace is so nice in the winter. It was good towing, but put a lot of wear and tear on our F150. It has been easy to upkeep and very comfortable. Show less

Great RV (trailer) for a family. Sleeps 10, lots of counter space and storage space. Everything is power, (awning, slide out, stabilizers, and hitch. Has two A/C's and two televisions. exterior kitchen is a huge bonus. Show less

Love it. One of the best RV’s. made .total quality. Dealing with the dealership we bought it from was a pain in the ass. One of the slides ripped the flooring , and took 3 months to get an appointment to repair it, and they said it would only be 2 weeks to fix it, and it took two months. The dealership is 300 miles from my-home, and I told them that I would be there on this date and at this time, and it was parked way in the back, and it took them 2 hours to get out, and then I had to backup out on to a very busy street in downtown Sacramento 🤯🤯🤯. You get the picture.. love the RV, Dealership no so much. I could go on and on about the Dealership. Show less

This RV is extremely comfortable and roomy. The amount of storage is incredible. The pantry and refrigerator / freezer allow you to pack food for long trips. Kitchen island adds so much space for food preparations and entertaining. The two outside awnings are sturdy and provide great shade. Good speakers and lighting. Take more toys and less clothes with the washer and dryer, skip the laundry mat! It really is like traveling in a 4 star hotel suite. Show less

We enjoyed the 3 years we've owned our "Magic Carpet." We've been especially pleased with the spacious layout of two slides in the living area, and the queen-sized bed which we upgraded with a better mattress. The washer/dryer on board saves us lots of wasted time doing laundry! The large electric awning provides us many hours of outdoor enjoyment and protection from the weather, and the auto-dump rain feature meant we don't have to worry about the awning during the rain. We upgraded several things, including the 4-step Torklift Glowstep scissor steps. We added a wi-fi booster and a cell phone booster since we both worked occasionally while on trips. The wif-fi booster helped us stream movies from Netflix without buffering. Having the dealer convert the bedside hanging closets with removable/adjustable shelves helped increase our storage considerably (who needs hanging clothes on vacation ). We also had the dealer make a pass-through from the bed to the closet for my CPAP machine and had a "headknocker" factory shelf above the bed converted to two side shelves so we could read in bed. The fridge/freezer is large enough that we buy groceries for a week, and let us bring back loads of delicious Georgia peaches from a local fruit stand, and meat from an outstanding meat market we found in Blairsville GA. Although we seldom use the outdoor tv, stove and fridge, they were nice to have when we did want them. The AC is so good we usually run only one AC in the bedroom, and it cooled the living area in weather up into the 80s without a problem. The large shower is a real pleasure. It's large enough for comfortable showers. And our hot water never failed to give long showers without having to resort to "navy" showers. We just turn on the AC and the Propane to get continuous showers up to 10 minutes! We tow with a Ford 250 pickup and experienced no problems towing through any terrain. The RV brakes function well and the Equalizer weight distribution system maintains excellent roadability.
